COLUMBIA, S.C. — Shane Beamer, head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks, has received a contract extension that will keep him with the program through 2030. The Board of Trustees approved the new deal on January 24, 2025. This extension comes as Beamer is entering his fifth season at South Carolina, following impressive improvements in the team’s performance since he took over.

Beamer’s tenure has shown promise after he took the reins in 2021, succeeding Will Muschamp. His first season saw the Gamecocks exceed their combined win totals from 2019 and 2020, finishing with a 7-6 record and winning the Mayo Bowl against North Carolina. In 2022, the team continued to shine with an 8-5 record and significant victories, including back-to-back wins against top-10 teams.

One of the key players in this success has been quarterback Spencer Rattler. Under Rattler’s leadership, South Carolina achieved a stunning 63-38 victory against Tennessee, a game that highlighted their capability to compete at a high level. The Gamecocks further solidified their status by defeating rivals Clemson 31-30, breaking a seven-game losing streak in the rivalry.

Beamer, the son of Virginia Tech coaching legend Frank Beamer, has a strong football background. He started as a walk-on at Virginia Tech, eventually working his way up to coaching positions, including roles at Georgia Tech and Oklahoma. His coaching philosophy emphasizes strong relationships with players, often inviting them to his office for personal discussions that include sharing sweets from his desk.

The new contract will see Beamer’s salary start at $8.15 million in 2025, increasing by $100,000 annually. If Beamer decides to leave the program in the coming year, he owes South Carolina $5 million unless he provides three days’ notice.

As the Gamecocks build on their recent successes, they look ahead to the future under Beamer’s leadership, aiming for continued progress and competitive play in college football.
