Spurs Defeat Hawks 135-126 in Thrilling Game
SAN ANTONIO, TX — The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Atlanta Hawks 135-126 on Thursday night, marking their third consecutive win. De'Aaron Fox led the Spurs with 26 points and nine assists, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker set a career-high with 38 points for the Hawks.
The game at the Frost Bank Center was competitive, with both teams trading leads multiple times. San Antonio, now 11-4, had to play without key players including Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, yet managed to hold off the Hawks, who are now 9-7.
The first quarter saw the Spurs start strong, but Atlanta kept pace, tying the game multiple times. In the second quarter, Spurs rookie Jones Garcia made a significant impact, contributing 12 points, six assists, and five rebounds. He sparked a 34-12 run to give the Spurs a commanding 62-46 lead.
Despite trailing for much of the game, the Hawks rallied late. They took a brief lead when Alexander-Walker scored a layup to make it 101-100 early in the fourth quarter. However, the Spurs responded with a 16-4 scoring run, including crucial plays from Garcia that extended their lead.
Keita Bates-Diop added 25 points for the Spurs and Champagnie contributed 20, as San Antonio continued to demonstrate their depth with six players reaching double figures.
The Hawks’ loss was their second in a row after a five-game winning streak. Up next, Atlanta faces the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, while San Antonio heads to Phoenix on Sunday.
