Aaron Jones Re-signs with Vikings on Two-Year, $20 Million Deal

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Former Pro Bowl running back Aaron Jones has agreed to terms on a two-year, $20 million contract to remain with the Minnesota Vikings, a league source confirmed to The Athletic.
The deal includes $13 million in guaranteed salary and marks a key move for the Vikings as they prepare for the upcoming season. Now entering his age 30 season, Jones was the top-ranked running back and the No. 31 overall player after a standout 2024 season.
During the last season, Jones started all 17 games for the Vikings, demonstrating resilience by playing through rib and hip injuries. Despite these challenges, he managed to achieve a personal best with 1,138 rushing yards from 255 carries and surpassed 1,500 total scrimmage yards for the third time in his eight-year NFL career.
“Aaron has been a cornerstone of our offense,” said Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. “His ability to perform at a high level even when banged up is a testament to his toughness and dedication.”
Jones’ performance statistics paint a compelling picture, even with a career-low average of 4.5 yards per carry. He compensated for this with an impressive 8.0 yards per reception, marking the second-highest number in his career.
Originally drafted in the fifth round out of UTEP in 2017, Jones has amassed 9,562 scrimmage yards—7,078 rushing—along with 70 total touchdowns, including 50 rushing.
The Vikings are looking to build continuity in their lineup, especially with the possibility of a new starting quarterback next season. “Having a reliable running back like Aaron who can pass protect and catch is invaluable as we transition,” commented a source from the Vikings’ front office.
This agreement highlights the Vikings’ strategy to maintain veteran presence in their offense, considering Jones’ extensive experience and productivity.
