ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Aaron Rai will enter the final round of the Abu Dhabi Championship with a one-stroke lead after a strong performance on Saturday. Rai shot a six-under-par 66 at Yas Links, bringing his total to 20-under par for the tournament.

In the third round, Rai made seven birdies, showcasing his skill throughout the day. His only slip came on the 17th hole where he recorded a bogey. Despite this, Rai expressed enthusiasm about his position as he seeks his first European Tour title in five years.

This championship is crucial as it marks the penultimate event of the DP World Tour season, with the top players competing for vital points. Rai commented, “This is one of the biggest events we have on the DP World Tour. To win this week, to have a chance going into the weekend, is great.”

Tied for second are England’s Tommy Fleetwood and Nicolai Hojgaard from Denmark, both finishing the round with scores of 67. Fleetwood highlighted his own recent form, noting he was playing “very good golf” after winning the Tour Championship earlier this year.

Spanish golfer Nacho Elvira also put in a strong showing with a score of 65, placing him just two shots off the lead. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy, who is currently leading the Race to Dubai standings, sits six strokes behind after finishing the round with a 66.

The competition will continue on Sunday, with all eyes on Rai and Fleetwood as they battle for the title. Rai’s recent win at the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour adds to the anticipation surrounding his performance.
