Aaron Rodgers Pittsburgh Steelers News

CINCINNATI — The Pittsburgh Steelers are considering a major shift in their quarterback lineup, with future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers emerging as a potential target. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers are set to discuss a possible union with Rodgers after recently trading for wide receiver DK Metcalf.

As the Steelers seek to reinforce their offensive strength in 2025, the addition of a veteran quarterback like Rodgers, who can effectively connect with both Metcalf and George Pickens, could drastically alter the landscape of the AFC North.

“Rodgers and the Steelers are expected to talk and explore a union,” Schefter tweeted. “The idea of Rodgers playing for Mike Tomlin is in play.” With this new possibility, the Steelers aim to re-establish themselves as contenders in the competitive division.

In addition to Rodgers, the Steelers are reportedly engaged in discussions with quarterbacks Justin Fields, who recently signed with the New York Jets, and Russell Wilson, who led the team for the final 11 games in the previous season.

Fields is now off the market. He reportedly reached a two-year $40 million agreement with the Jets, including $30 million guaranteed, as per Schefter. Meanwhile, Wilson’s experience in Pittsburgh may still give him an edge over other candidates.

The Steelers’ move to acquire two-time Pro Bowler DK Metcalf demonstrates their commitment to building a formidable offensive lineup. Metcalf, known for his ability to make big plays, notably had three 1,000-yard seasons, further solidifying his reputation as a valuable asset. According to Metcalf’s representation, he is eager to play for the Steelers in the rugged AFC North.

“He did not say anything about playing in a warm climate,” tweeted NFL insider Tom Pelissero. “Metcalf is all-in on playing in Pittsburgh.”

The momentum in the AFC North continues as Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns agreed to a four-year contract extension, making him the NFL’s highest-paid non-quarterback, with $123.5 million guaranteed. This new deal solidifies Garrett’s future in Cleveland, countering any notions of a trade following last season’s disappointing 3-14 record.

“Myles had a change of heart and he’s excited to go from Cleveland to Canton and chase a championship in Ohio,” Garrett’s agent, Nicole Lynn, said about the negotiations.

Cleveland’s steadfastness regarding Garrett exemplifies the Brow’s commitment to keeping their core players while strategizing for the future.

The recent influx of high-profile contracts in the league potentially complicates matters for the Cincinnati Bengals, who are looking to secure upgrades for key players Ja'Marr Chase and Trey Hendrickson. Chase, following his triple crown season, is expected to surpass the contract signed by Garrett, seeking a deal that would establish him as the league’s highest-paid non-quarterback.

ESPN’s Kelsey Conway noted the ripple effect of recent contracts highlighting how Metcalf’s new deal with the Steelers could adjust Tee Higgins’ salary expectations, which might affect the Bengals’ negotiations.

As teams across the league position themselves for the upcoming season, the focus remains on how the Steelers will navigate their quarterback situation. Will they land Rodgers, or will they turn to Wilson to reinforce their roster? With free agency set to open, and negotiations ramping up, the choices made in the coming days could reshape the AFC North as each franchise strives for supremacy.
