Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands Claims Victory in the Men’s Race at the 2024 New York City Marathon
Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands has emerged as the winner of the men’s race at the 2024 New York City Marathon. This significant victory marks a notable achievement for Nageeye, who competed against a strong field of international athletes.
In the women’s category, Kenya‘s Sheila Chepkirui secured her first major marathon win by edging out defending champion Hellen Obiri. Chepkirui used the final mile, particularly the hills of Central Park, to pull ahead and finish with a time of 2:24:35, just six seconds ahead of Obiri’s 2:24:29. Vivian Cheruiyot, also from Kenya, finished third with a time of 2:25:21.
The wheelchair events also saw American athletes making strong showings. Daniel Romanchuk won the men’s wheelchair title with a time of 1:36:31, his third win at the NYC Marathon, while Susannah Scaroni regained the women’s wheelchair title she first won in 2022, finishing in 1:48:05.
