Achraf Hakimi Reflects on Growth at Paris Saint-Germain

Paris, France — Achraf Hakimi, the versatile defender and vice-captain of Paris Saint-Germain, discussed his role at the club and his growth during Luis Enrique‘s tenure. In an interview, Hakimi emphasized his leadership both on and off the field.
“I try to help all the players on our team, especially the younger ones,” Hakimi said. “It’s an important role that I take on by setting an example on and off the pitch. I believe that is the best I can do.”
Hakimi, who is also captain of the Moroccan national team, acknowledged his progress at PSG, stating, “I think this is one of my best seasons. I have more confidence now and feel more mature. Thanks to the experience I’ve gained, I feel better. I still have room to improve; that is my goal.”
This season, Hakimi has played 44 matches, scoring six goals and providing 14 assists. He is a key player for PSG, who recently won the Trophée des Champions and the Ligue 1 title. Hakimi will also participate in the Coupe de France final against Reims on May 24 and the UEFA Champions League semifinal against Arsenal.
The defender expressed admiration for his coach, Luis Enrique, and credited him and his coaching staff for his development. “I’ve had great coaches throughout my career, and I am grateful to them for helping me become the player I am today. Luis Enrique has allowed me to reach a level of play I never imagined,” he said. “Thanks to that, I’ve become a more complete player. He has given me the freedom I needed.”
Additionally, Hakimi is a finalist for the 2025 Marc-Vivien Foé Award, given to the best African player in Ligue 1, and he is well-positioned for the African Ballon d’Or.
