Adam Copeland Wrestling Aew Championship Match

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Adam Copeland, known in the wrestling world as the Rated-R Superstar Edge, reflects on his unexpected return to the ring nearly 14 years after a debilitating injury forced him to retire. In a recent interview with Jon Alba on Sports Illustrated’s “The Takedown,” Copeland shared his feelings about once again performing in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and the significance it holds for him.

Having been told he would never wrestle again, Copeland returned in 2020 and has since viewed his wrestling career as a second chance. “All of this is bonus, like all of this was not supposed to happen,” he said during the interview. “So I look at it as it’s all extra, it’s all wonderful sweet toppings on the sundae, you know?” His gratitude extends to mentoring younger talent in AEW, emphasizing the importance of elevating newcomers before he chooses to retire.

Initially known for his iconic persona as Edge, Copeland now competes under the name Cope. His upcoming match against Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship is set to be his first pay-per-view contest since returning. As he prepares for this significant event, Copeland expressed his determination to make the most of every opportunity.

Dealing with injuries is part of the sport, and Copeland has faced numerous challenges, requiring multiple surgeries over the years. “I approach it like a challenge,” he stated. “I don’t let it bum me out or anything. It’s just like ‘okay, well, we’re here again. Surgery, more plates, more screws.’ This one was another plate and seven more screws. I think I’m over 20 now.” Copeland added that the path of a performer often comes with physical consequences, particularly for those aiming to compete at the highest level.

In comparing his experience to that of a lead singer in a band, Copeland described the thrill and danger of giving everything during a performance, knowing there’s always a risk involved. He acknowledges that this may be the final chapter of his journey for the AEW World Championship, a possibility he approaches with a mix of excitement and resolve.

“I want to try and do it at the very top level while I can, and that means there’s going to be fallout at certain times,” he said. “But I know the risks involved, and I will give everything I have in the main event of Revolution.” Copeland’s upcoming match not only holds personal significance but could also mark a poignant moment in his storied career.

As he prepares for what could be his final championship run, Copeland remains focused on making an unforgettable impact in AEW. His journey back to the ring is a testament to resilience, and he plans to embrace every moment along the way.
