Adelaide 36ers Coach Welcomes Break Ahead of Clash with Tasmania JackJumpers
Adelaide 36ers head coach Mike Wells has expressed relief at having a full week for practice, following a challenging schedule where the team played four games over just 11 days, winning three of them. This break has allowed the team time to regroup and focus on preparations for their upcoming home game against the Tasmania JackJumpers on Sunday.
“It’s a different phase for our team and our group to be able to evaluate ourselves, to teach and correct and focus on us a little bit more,” Wells stated during an interview. “You get to look at different playing combinations, defensive alignments and things like that.”
The 36ers are gearing up to face a JackJumpers team that has a preceding engagement with the Sydney Kings on Friday night in Launceston. However, Wells indicated that this would not significantly alter their preparation strategy. “That doesn’t affect our preparation as much as you would think,” Wells noted. “You are laying your game plan out four or five days before and work out what we want to do during the week.”
Wells emphasized the importance of adapting to the identity teams show over their games. “Obviously, we will all watch that game on Friday night, and that will factor into how we practice on Saturday,” he said. “Teams are showing you who they are along the way now; we will have a really good idea, and if they do something different, we will make the adjustments for it.”
Advising his team to “stay focused on us and control what we can control,” Wells underscored the significance of self-focus and adaptability in preparation for the varied challenges posed by different teams in the league.
