African Cup of Nations: Top Goal Scorers So Far
As the African Cup of Nations reaches its climax in Cote D’Iviore, several players have left their mark on the tournament by finding the back of the net. The competition is set to conclude on Sunday, February 11, with the final featuring the host team, the Elephants, and the formidable Super Eagles of Nigeria.
In the semifinals, the hosts managed a narrow 1-0 victory over DR Congo, courtesy of a stunning overhead kick by Sabatien Haller in the 65th minute. Meanwhile, the Super Eagles triumphed over Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a thrilling 4-2 penalty shoot-out.
One notable player who has stood out in terms of goal-scoring is Emilio Nsue, the captain of the underdog Equatorial Guinea team. Nsue has been in sensational form, scoring an impressive five goals during the group stage. However, his tally couldn’t progress any further as his team bowed out in the Round of 16 against Guinea Conakry.
Nsue’s most memorable performance came in their final group match against the hosts, where he netted twice in a resounding 4-0 victory. Earlier in the tournament, he had achieved a remarkable hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Guinea-Bissau, becoming the first player since 2008 to achieve this feat in the Africa Cup of Nations.
This tournament has showcased some exceptional goal-scoring talent, and it will be exciting to see if any of the top scorers can make an impact in the final showdown between the Elephants and the Super Eagles.
