Ajax Confirms Interest In Signing Jordan Henderson From Al Ettifaq

Ajax interim head coach, John van ‘t Schip, has confirmed that the club is actively pursuing the signing of midfielder Jordan Henderson from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq. In an effort to strengthen their midfield, Ajax has expressed interest in acquiring the experienced English international, who is reportedly unsettled in Saudi Arabia.

During an interview with ESPN ahead of their upcoming Eredivisie match against AZ Alkmaar, Van ‘t Schip revealed that talks are underway for Henderson’s potential transfer. He also highlighted that other players within the team would greatly benefit from Henderson’s presence.

However, sources indicate that Al-Ettifaq may not be willing to let go of the veteran midfielder so soon after signing him just a few months ago. Since his move from Liverpool in July 2023, Jordan Henderson has brought a wealth of experience and success to the Saudi club, having won several major titles including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Anfield.

Ajax is reportedly willing to pay a small transfer fee to secure Henderson’s services, as they recognize the decreasing value of the player due to his age. However, they are not keen on a loan move and prefer a permanent transfer. The Eredivisie side is aware that Henderson’s addition would significantly strengthen their squad, and they are actively working towards reaching an agreement with Al-Ettifaq within the next two weeks.

If negotiations with Al-Ettifaq prove unsuccessful, Ajax may consider turning their attention to alternative targets to bolster their midfield options for the remainder of the season.
