Ryan Grubb Alabama Football Coach

MOBILE, Ala. — Alabama football’s coaching staff continues to evolve, with head coach Kalen DeBoer hinting at a potential reunion with former offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb in 2025. Grubb, who recently parted ways with the Seattle Seahawks, has a long history with DeBoer, dating back to their time at Sioux Falls, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, and Washington.

“We go way back,” DeBoer said during the Senior Bowl on Tuesday. “Great friend of mine. I think the world of him as a football coach and obviously as a person too. I know he is working through his process just after what last season brought. Just kind of see what he does there. Here for him whenever he needs me, and that’s always going to be the case.”

Grubb was initially set to join Alabama as offensive coordinator in 2024 but opted for the Seahawks’ position instead. The Crimson Tide subsequently hired Nick Sheridan for the role. Grubb’s track record is impressive, with his offenses surpassing 400 yards per game in six of his nine seasons as a college coordinator. Notably, Washington’s offense under Grubb averaged over 515 yards per game in 2022, consistently scoring more than 30 points per game.

In his lone NFL season with the Seahawks, Grubb’s passing game ranked eighth in the league, averaging 236.5 yards per game with quarterback Geno Smith. However, the team struggled with its running game, ranking fifth-worst in the NFL and averaging less than 100 yards per game.

DeBoer’s comments suggest that Grubb remains a valued figure in his coaching circle, leaving the door open for a future collaboration in Tuscaloosa.
