Ex-Alabama Linebacker Justin Okoronkwo Transfers to South Carolina
Former Alabama linebacker Justin Okoronkwo announced Friday that he will transfer to South Carolina, keeping him in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The 6-foot-3, 228-pound freshman shared his decision on social media, posting, “New Home !!!” on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Okoronkwo, a native of Munich, Germany, recorded 14 tackles during his freshman season with the Crimson Tide. His move to South Carolina sets up a potential matchup against his former team when Alabama faces the Gamecocks on Oct. 25 in Columbia, South Carolina.
The decision comes amid significant changes to Alabama’s inside linebacker roster. Veterans Justin Jefferson and Deontae Lawson are returning, while Nikhai Hill-Green joins from Colorado. Meanwhile, Jihaad Campbell declared for the NFL Draft, and Jeremiah Alexander transferred to Clemson, another SEC rival.
Okoronkwo’s departure highlights the ongoing roster adjustments for Alabama as they prepare for the 2024 season. His addition to South Carolina’s defense could provide the Gamecocks with a boost in their quest to compete in the highly competitive SEC.
