Noah Williamson Basketball Transfer Alabama

Tuscaloosa, Ala. — Alabama basketball has landed its first commitment from the transfer portal, securing former Bucknell center Noah Williamson on Monday evening. The 7-foot, 250-pound Latvian player visited Alabama the day before and made the decision to join the Crimson Tide shortly after arriving in Tuscaloosa.

Williamson, who averaged 17.6 points and 7.6 rebounds per game last season, was named the Patriot League Player of the Year and made significant contributions to the Bison, including earning a spot on the All-Defensive team. His commitment bolsters Alabama’s frontcourt following the departure of starters Grant Nelson and Clifford Omoruyi, both of whom have exhausted their eligibility.

The Crimson Tide, coming off a promising season that ended with a loss to Duke in the Elite Eight, saw a need for a true center and found their answer in Williamson. He becomes a significant player for the 2025-26 season, where he will help fill gaps left in the roster. “Noah brings a strong defensive presence to the paint, which is essential for our strategy moving forward,” said Alabama Head Coach Nate Oats.

In his senior campaign at Bucknell, Williamson was a crucial player, starting all 32 games and leading the team to an 18-15 record. His performances included nine double-doubles, showing his ability to impact the game on multiple fronts. He also shot 53.8 percent from the field and demonstrated his versatility by knocking down 31.8 percent of his three-point attempts.

“I’m excited to join Alabama and contribute to a program with such a rich history,” Williamson said in a statement. “The coaching staff and facilities really impressed me, and I’m eager to work with my new teammates.”

This transfer marks a strategic move for Alabama as it aims to enhance its defense, a noted area of improvement from the previous season. Williamson’s impact is anticipated not just statistically, but also in his potential to create a strong inside presence, allowing for a twin towers lineup alongside Aiden Sherrell.

As Alabama continues to explore options in the transfer portal, they are expected to bring in more talent to further strengthen the roster. “We are not done yet,” Oats confirmed. “We are actively looking to fill additional spots and bring in players who will help elevate our program.”

Williamson’s addition is just one piece of the puzzle as Alabama prepares for the upcoming season, and fans can expect more announcements in the near future regarding other potential commitments.
