SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Alamodome is set to host the 2025 Men’s Final Four on April 5 and 7, bringing an exciting atmosphere to San Antonio, which has a rich history with the NCAA tournament. The venue, originally built to attract an NFL franchise, now hosts college football games and major events, proving its versatility since opening in 1993.

With a flexible seating capacity ranging from 20,662 for basketball to approximately 70,000 for other events, the Alamodome is uniquely equipped to accommodate large crowds. Key events hosted here include the Men’s Final Four in 1998, 2004, 2008, 2018, and now for the fifth time in 2025. The last time all four No. 1 seeds made it to the Final Four was in 2008.

“It’s a significant moment for San Antonio to host this event once again,” said Alamodome Director Kris Dutton. “The Final Four showcases our city’s love for basketball and our capability to host major sporting events.”

The Alamodome is currently home to the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas and the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) Roadrunners. The Brahmas returned to play in 2023 when the league merged with the UFL, while UTSA has established itself as a competitive program since its inception in 2011.

The stadium underwent significant renovations over the years to improve facilities and attract events. In 2023, the city initiated a proposal for an estimated $3 to $4 billion investment aimed at modernizing the venue further and creating new sports facilities. San Antonio City Council previously allocated $50 million for upgrades in 2016.

Despite its many accolades, the Alamodome has faced challenges in securing a permanent NFL team, despite renovations aimed at attracting one. However, the venue continues to remain a vital part of the local sports culture.

Fans attending the Final Four will benefit from various free activities downtown, including the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, which will feature interactive sports games and appearances by sports celebrities. Concerts will also take place at Tower Park, highlighting major artists throughout the weekend.

As the city gears up for another thrilling NCAA championship, the Alamodome is positioned to showcase its potential as a significant venue in college basketball history and will contribute to the festive atmosphere expected during this prestigious weekend.
