Albon To Replace Sargeant In Williams For Australian Grand Prix Weekend

Former Red Bull driver Alex Albon will step in for his teammate Logan Sargeant at Williams for the remainder of the Australian Grand Prix weekend, following Albon’s crash during Free Practice 1.

Albon lost control of his Williams FW46 at Turn 6 in Albert Park, hitting the wall after running over the kerbs, leading to substantial damage to the car.

Williams, lacking a spare chassis for the weekend, made the decision to have Albon take over Sargeant’s car for the rest of the Grand Prix.

Team Principal James Vowles expressed disappointment over the situation and acknowledged the need for significant changes within the team to prevent such issues in the future.

Vowles explained that the decision was made to maximize the team’s potential for scoring points this weekend in the highly competitive midfield of Formula 1.

Albon praised Sargeant for his professionalism and team spirit, acknowledging the difficulty of the situation for his teammate.

Sargeant, who had a strong start to the weekend with 14th and 13th place finishes in practice, described the moment as the toughest in his career but pledged to support the team in any way he can.

With Albon now in the driver’s seat, Williams is aiming to secure their first points of the 2024 season as the Australian Grand Prix continues.
