Alcaraz to Face Khachanov in Italian Open Quarterfinals

ROME – Carlos Alcaraz, the world No. 3, will face Karen Khachanov, the 23rd seed, in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open on Tuesday. This matchup follows Alcaraz’s strong performance against Laslo Djere, where he won 7-6(2), 6-2 to reach the fourth round.
In his previous match on May 9, Alcaraz defeated Dusan Lajovic 6-3, 6-3. After dealing with an adductor injury earlier in the season, he expressed satisfaction with his physical condition. “The body is feeling great,” Alcaraz said, highlighting that he executed good moves and sprints without pain.
Alcaraz has had a positive history against Khachanov, leading their rivalry 4-0 with all wins in straight sets. He looks to maintain this streak at Foro Italico.
“I’m just happy to be back and playing well,” Alcaraz noted, reflecting on the journey over the past few weeks. As he prepares for the match, Alcaraz acknowledges the challenge Khachanov presents as an accomplished player on the ATP Tour.
Meanwhile, Khachanov advanced after defeating Italian player Francesco Passaro with ease earlier in the tournament. Alcaraz’s challenge now is to build momentum and secure a spot in the semifinals, which would mark a significant achievement in his quest for a first title at this prestigious event.
