A recent complaint regarding improper food storage led to an inspection by the New York State Department of Agriculture & Markets at the Aldi grocery store situated in Colonie. An inspector discovered a critical deficiency during the inspection, resulting in the disposal of hundreds of pounds of food.

Concerns initially arose after a Facebook post on April 4 caught significant attention, garnering over 300 comments and more than 1,000 shares. The post specifically cautioned against purchasing meat, milk, and cheese from the cooler areas of the store, allegedly posted by an individual claiming to work at Aldi.

Following the widely circulated post, the Department of Agriculture & Markets received a complaint on the same day, prompting an in-depth sanitary inspection by a Division of Food Safety and Inspection inspector. The inspection at the Aldi store on Central Avenue revealed a critical deficiency, leading to the seizure and destruction of 295 pounds of products.

In response to the findings, the Aldi store management was briefed on the deficiencies identified during the inspection, along with guidance on proper food storage protocols. Aldi, as a company, maintains strict protocols to uphold product quality for its customers. The store took proactive measures to prepare and dispose of any impacted products prior to the official inspection.

A re-inspection of the Aldi store located on Central Avenue in Colonie is scheduled to take place at a later undisclosed date, as confirmed by the Department of Agriculture & Markets. The incident underscores the importance of adherence to food safety regulations and protocols within the retail sector, ensuring the availability of safe and quality products to consumers.
