Alejandro Osuna Debuts with Texas Rangers, Enters MLB History

Chicago, United States – Alejandro Osuna made his Major League Baseball debut with the Texas Rangers on Sunday, becoming the 151st Mexican-born player to achieve this milestone. He played against the Chicago White Sox and joined his brother, Roberto Osuna, in a historic moment for Mexican baseball.
The 22-year-old left fielder was batting sixth in the lineup during the Rangers’ 5-4 victory. Despite going 0-for-3 at the plate, he drew a walk and struck out once, before being caught stealing in the second inning. In his later at-bats, he flew out to left field, grounded out to second base, and struck out again in the ninth inning with runners in scoring position.
Alejandro Osuna’s debut adds him to the list of brothers who have played in MLB, including Vicente and Enrique Romo, and Bobby and Alex Treviño. Roberto Osuna, who debuted in 2015 with the Toronto Blue Jays, is Alejandro’s older brother.
This season, Osuna is the third Mexican-born player to debut in MLB, following pitcher Omar Cruz and outfielder Tirso Ornelas, both of the San Diego Padres. Additionally, Mexican-American Marcelo Mayer recently made his debut with the Boston Red Sox.
The game took place at Guaranteed Rate Field in front of 20,908 fans and lasted 2 hours and 36 minutes. Despite a slow start, Osuna’s entry is celebrated among the growing presence of Mexican talent in the major leagues.
