Alejandro Tosti Celebrates Epic Ace at TPC Sawgrass with Splash

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Alejandro Tosti made a memorable entrance into the golfing world on March 12, 2025, by scoring a hole-in-one at the iconic 17th hole of TPC Sawgrass during his practice round for THE PLAYERS Championship.
The 28-year-old Argentinian golfer achieved the ace with a precise shot using a 52-degree wedge, landing the ball 15 feet past the Hole 17 pin before it slowly rolled back into the cup, igniting wild celebrations from both Tosti and the gathered spectators.
True to his word, Tosti jumped into the water immediately after making the shot, culminating a promise made earlier in the day while playing the par-3 eighth hole. “I’ve been telling people that if I make it in the hole on 17, I’m going in the water, so I had to 100% go in the water,” he said, reflecting on his joy. “I was so happy and really cool to have that moment today.”
The crowd erupted as Tosti resurfaced from the water, arms raised in triumph. His caddie, who playfully pushed him into the pond, joined him for a celebratory hug on the edge of the grass. Tosti remained unfazed by his soaking and completed the practice round on the 18th hole, continuing his pre-tournament preparations while drenched.
Earlier that day, fellow competitor JJ Jakovac, the caddie for Collin Morikawa, also made history by hitting the first hole-in-one in the tournament’s annual caddie challenge at the same iconic hole, garnering cheers from all present.
Tosti, a former University of Florida student, shared his journey to this moment, recalling how he first learned the game in Argentina using a charcoal stick and a ping-pong ball. His tenacity on the greens has taken him from little access to golfing facilities in Rosario to playing at one of the most prestigious courses in the world.
Now ranked No. 200 in the world, Tosti has been a determined competitor on the PGA TOUR, finishing 137th in the FedExCup standings during his rookie year. He secured his place in the high-stakes Players Championship thanks to his improved status at the Final Stage of Q-School.
The 17th hole at TPC Sawgrass is infamous for dramatic moments, where many golfers have missed the green and ended up in the water. However, Tosti’s escapade set a jubilant tone for this year’s event. “I’ve seen so many things,” he said about various golf experiences. “I’ve been playing golf for 20 years at the highest level, and today is the first day that the ball goes in. I couldn’t have asked for a better place than the 17th hole at TPC.”
