Alex Bregman’s Potential Move to Red Sox: Latest Updates
Free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman is currently a subject of interest for several MLB teams, with the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers emerging as the most likely suitors. According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Red Sox and Tigers are the two teams still in the mix to sign Bregman this offseason.
The Houston Astros, who initially were expected to re-sign Bregman, have ruled out this option after signing Christian Walker to play first base. Isaac Paredes is expected to open the 2025 season as the Astros’ third baseman.
The New York Yankees were also mentioned as a possibility for Bregman but may not be as interested after spending heavily on lefty pitcher Max Fried and lefty slugger Cody Bellinger in a trade.
The Red Sox have the financial resources to sign Bregman and could move Rafael Devers off third base to preserve his health. The Tigers, on the other hand, need a third baseman and could benefit from a veteran presence in their young clubhouse.
Bregman also has a personal connection with both managers, A.J. Hinch of the Tigers and Alex Cora of the Red Sox, as he worked with them during his time with the Houston Astros.
