Alex Eala Faces Off Against Lizette Cabrera at Ilkley Open

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis player Alex Eala is set to compete against Lizette Cabrera from Australia at the Ilkley Open in Great Britain on Tuesday night. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:40 p.m.
Eala, ranked 77th in the world, dropped from her career-best ranking of 69th after early exits at both Roland Garros and the Birmingham Open. She looks to improve her ranking with a win against Cabrera, who comes in ranked 206th and recently secured her spot in the main draw by defeating Czech player Tereza Martincová, 6-1, 7-5.
Cabrera, who was born in Townsville, Australia, to Filipino parents, also faced challenges in her recent matches, losing in the round of 32 at the Birmingham Open to Turkey’s Zeynep Sönmez, with scores of 3-6, 5-7. Eala, similarly, was eliminated in the first round of the Birmingham Open by Czech player Linda Fruhvirtová, losing 5-7, 6-7(7), 1-6.
Before that, Eala faced a first-round defeat at her Grand Slam debut against Colombian Emiliana Arango at Roland Garros on May 25, where the final score was 0-6, 6-2, 3-6. Eala is eager to bounce back and regain her momentum in the competitive tennis arena.
This highlights an exciting all-Filipino matchup as both players aim to advance further in the WTA 125 event.
