Alex Pereira Reacts to Jamahal Hill’s Knockout Loss at UFC 311
MIAMI – Reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira expressed no satisfaction in watching rival Jamahal Hill suffer a knockout loss to Jiri Prochazka at UFC 311 this past Saturday in Inglewood, Calif. Despite their heated history, Pereira emphasized respect over rivalry.
Hill (12-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC), who has been vocal about his desire for a rematch with Pereira since their April 2024 bout at UFC 300, was stopped by Prochazka in the second round. Pereira, who was cageside for the fight, dismissed any notion of taking joy in Hill’s defeat. “I have absolutely no problem with him,” Pereira told MMA Junkie through an interpreter. “We’re both the same. Sometimes I’ll go and make some fun before the fight. Or he will (say something about me). But tomorrow we’re going to hold hands and respect each other. I think all the turmoil that was created is part of the sport.”
The rivalry between Pereira and Hill escalated in recent months, including a heated confrontation at the UFC Performance Institute. However, Pereira downplayed the animosity, framing it as part of the competitive nature of mixed martial arts. Hill’s loss at UFC 311 significantly diminishes his chances of securing a rematch with Pereira, at least while “Poatan” holds the title.
For Prochazka (31-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC), the victory repositions him as a top contender for another shot at Pereira. The two previously clashed at UFC 295 in November 2023 and UFC 303 in July, with Pereira emerging victorious both times. Despite Prochazka’s resurgence, Pereira remains indifferent about a potential third fight. “He’s No. 2, but whatever he is, I’m here to fight,” Pereira said. “If he’s No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, No. 5, No. 6, I’m just here to fight anybody.”
Pereira is now focused on his upcoming title defense against Magomed Ankalaev (20-1-1 MMA, 11-1-1 UFC) at UFC 312 on March 8 in Las Vegas. The Brazilian champion, known for his stoic demeanor and devastating striking, continues to solidify his legacy in the light heavyweight division.
