Alexandre Muller Advances at Miami Open After Defeating Rei Sakamoto

MIAMI, Fla. — Frenchman Alexandre Muller advanced to the second round of the Miami Open on Wednesday night, defeating Japanese qualifier Rei Sakamoto 6-4, 6-4 at Hard Rock Stadium.

Muller, ranked No. 41 in the world, showcased his skills against Sakamoto, who was making his debut in the Masters event. With this victory, Muller will face No. 23 seed Francisco Cerundolo in the next round.

This match marked an important step for Muller, who aims to build momentum in the prestigious event valued at $9.193 million. “I’m really happy with my performance tonight. I managed to stay focused and controlled my shots well,” Muller said. “Facing Francisco will be another challenge, but I’m ready for it.”

In a parallel match, Egyptian Mayar Sherif also progressed to the second round, edging New Zealander Lulu Sun 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.
