Allegations of Espionage Shake Iranian Intelligence
In a startling disclosure, former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has accused a senior Iranian intelligence official of being a Mossad spy, reigniting discussions of potential infiltration within Iran‘s security apparatus. Ahmadinejad made the revelation in an interview with CNN Turk, where he stated that by 2021, it became evident that the head of a secret service unit in Iran, charged with countering Israeli intelligence activities, was in fact working for Israel’s Mossad.
Ahmadinejad elaborated on the situation, saying, “Israel organized complex operations inside Iran. They could easily obtain information. In Iran they are still silent about this.” He elaborated that, shockingly, the Iranian official responsible for thwarting Israeli espionage was serving as an agent for Mossad.
The former president did not stop there. He alleged that approximately 20 additional agents within Iran’s intelligence community, assigned to oversee Israeli intelligence activities, were also acting as double agents for Mossad. According to Ahmadinejad, these individuals played a role in numerous serious breaches of Iranian security, including the theft of nuclear documentation in 2018 and the assassination of several Iranian nuclear scientists.
These accusations are a significant blow to Iranian intelligence services, highlighting potential vulnerabilities and lapses in internal security protocols. The revelations add to the ongoing narrative of espionage challenges faced by Iran, particularly concerning its contentious nuclear program.
