Alpine Formula 1 Team Principal Resignation

IMOLA, Italy — Alpine Formula One Team announced on May 6, 2025, that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his position as Team Principal, effective immediately. Oakes, who joined Alpine in July 2024, helped the team secure sixth place in the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.

The resignation follows a disappointing performance in the recent Miami Grand Prix, where driver Jack Doohan retired on the first lap and Pierre Gasly finished outside the points.

In a statement, Alpine said, “BWT Alpine Formula One Team announces that Oliver Oakes has resigned from his role as Team Principal. The team has accepted his resignation with immediate effect. As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as Executive Advisor and will also be covering the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes.”

The team expressed gratitude for Oakes’ contributions, stating, “The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since he joined last summer.”

Oakes, who is 37 and a former racing driver, previously ran the Hitech Grand Prix team. His appointment made him the youngest team principal in F1 history. During his tenure, Alpine struggled to gain momentum this season and currently sits ninth in the team standings with seven points, just one ahead of Sauber.

Rumors regarding Doohan’s future with the team have also surfaced, as reserve driver Franco Colapinto is reportedly being considered for a potential seat at the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola.

Pierre Gasly commented on the team’s struggles in Miami, saying, “We were on the back foot throughout the whole weekend. We just need more time to get some answers.”

The team did not provide further comments on Oakes’ resignation or future plans for the Team Principal role, marking a significant shift in Alpine’s leadership amidst ongoing uncertainty.
