Amanda Balionis Golf Interview

PHILADELPHIA, PA — CBS sports journalist Amanda Balionis recently revealed that her favorite golfer to interview is not Rory McIlroy, despite their well-documented rapport. During a 2021 appearance on the Subpar podcast, hosted by Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz, Balionis declared Jon Rahm as her top choice for interviews. This admission may raise eyebrows, given Balionis and McIlroy’s history of warm interactions, especially after notable tournaments.

Balionis first joined CBS in 2017 and has engaged with McIlroy multiple times, particularly following his remarkable performance at the Masters in April 2025. Their friendly exchanges led to speculation about a possible romantic connection, although both are happily married to other individuals. Neither has commented on those rumors.

Despite her close friendship with McIlroy, Balionis expressed admiration for Rahm’s unique approach, stating, ‘Always, always [Rahm]. I mean, since our very first interview, there are those guys that you’re just like, you’re built different.’

Balionis appreciates Rahm’s depth, mentioning his interest in philosophy and how he views both golf and life holistically. ‘He handles himself differently and studies philosophy in his downtime because he’s interested in it,’ she explained. Her praise extends to Rahm’s previous struggles with temperament, emphasizing how he has embraced growth: ‘It’s not like he ever gave angry interviews.’

Recently, Balionis shared an Instagram post celebrating McIlroy’s victory at the Masters, referring to it as a significant moment that solidified his legacy among golf’s greats. ‘It took 17 Masters starts, 11 years of attempting to complete the career Grand Slam and 73 this week, but Rory McIlroy has his Green Jacket,’ she posted.

As the golf world focuses on the upcoming PGA Championship, Balionis remains a key figure, providing insights into the careers of both Rahm and McIlroy. She continues to play a pivotal role in highlighting the personalities and stories behind the sport, captivating golf fans with her coverage.
