AMC Reports $298 Million Loss Amid Weak Hollywood Box Office
LOS ANGELES, CA – AMC Entertainment Holdings reported a substantial net loss of $298.2 million for the third quarter of 2025, significantly up from a loss of $20.7 million during the same period last year. The company revealed total revenues of $1.3 billion, reflecting a slight decline from $1.34 billion in 2024.
The losses are largely attributed to a downturn in the Hollywood box office performance. Last year, AMC benefited from popular films like ‘Deadpool‘ and ‘Inside Out 2‘, which propped up their earnings. CEO Adam Aron noted that the company is navigating through a volatile film landscape, experiencing fluctuating box office trends throughout 2025.
“Calendar year 2025 is turning out exactly as we have long predicted,” Aron stated. “A weak first quarter was followed by a blazing hot second quarter, which then was followed by a softening third quarter.” He believes that the upcoming fourth quarter will be more profitable, forecasting it could lead to the highest grosses in six years.
During the latest quarter, AMC recorded total admissions revenue of $715.1 million, down from $744.2 million the previous year. Food and beverage concession sales also saw a drop, falling from $490.4 million to $451.8 million.
Aron remains optimistic about upcoming film releases, particularly tentpole movies set for Thanksgiving, including ‘Wicked: For Good‘ and ‘Zootopia 2‘. He emphasized that these films could help reignite audience interest in the theater experience, which has lagged behind pre-pandemic levels.
Despite the current challenges, Aron reassured investors of AMC’s readiness to leverage future box office opportunities as the industry recovers. “We expect the fourth quarter to turn out to be a strong finish to the year,” he added during an after-market conference call.
