América Faces Huracán Amidst Struggles and Player Absences

Bogotá, Colombia – On April 23, 2025, Club América will face Huracán in their third group stage match of the continental tournament. The match will take place at the Tomás Adolfo Ducó Stadium in Buenos Aires.

América arrives at this clash struggling, having gone five matches without a win, including three draws and two losses. Their last victory came in the continental tournament against Racing de Montevideo.

The team will see several changes in the starting lineup, with notable absences. Duván Vergara, a key player, will miss the game due to bacterial pharyngotonsillitis. The club announced in a press release that he has been receiving treatment with antibiotics and painkillers for the past five days.

With Vergara sidelined, the offensive responsibilities will largely fall on midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero. He has been absent from the last two Colombian league matches due to a red card received against Envigado.

Coach Da Silva will need to find a replacement for Vergara, as the team relies heavily on exploiting the flanks, particularly the left side where Vergara usually plays. Last weekend, in a match against La Equidad, Cristian Barrios was tested in that position, although he did not stand out.

Barrios, who is 26 years old, is the leading candidate to fill Vergara’s spot. He has previously alternated positions with Vergara this season, covering the left flank during the opening match against Llaneros.

If Barrios steps in for Vergara, Coach Silva may position Jan Franc Lucumí on the right side. Lucumí was a starter in the recent defeat to La Equidad. Another option is Felipe Gómez, who has shown good performance on the right wing, scoring two goals in 12 league matches this year.

Alternatively, Silva may opt to utilize Luis Ramos and Rodrigo Holgado at the front, deploying one of them on the wing or utilizing both as center forwards during the match.

América’s match against Huracán is scheduled for 19:00 (ARG/URU), 18:00 (CHI), and 17:00 (COL/PER/ECU).
