América’s Women Aim for Historic Points as Playoffs Approach

COAPA, Mexico — The Club América women’s soccer team is on the verge of making history as they prepare to face Toluca in the final match of the Clausura 2025 on April 17.
If victorious, América could reach a total of 44 points this season, a record for the institution. Defender Karina Rodríguez emphasized the importance of the milestone but noted that the team’s primary focus remains on winning another championship.
“We will approach every match aiming to win; we will never settle for less,” Rodríguez said during a press conference at the team’s Coapa facilities. “We’re targeting the three points and want to keep making history, but the most important goal is to secure our third star.”
Rodríguez expressed pride in securing the top position in the standings but reiterated that winning the league title is their ultimate objective. “It was something we wanted to achieve, finishing in first place, and I am very proud of this group. It doesn’t matter who we face in the quarterfinals; we need to go out at 100 percent, prepare well and wait for what’s to come,” she declared.
The Mexican-American defender remains optimistic and refuses to dwell on potential setbacks. “I always want to focus on the positives, and I am thinking only about achieving our third title. I don’t want to think otherwise. I keep the championship in my mind,” she stated.
Despite recent injuries, such as the loss of Jana Gutiérrez, Rodríguez maintains that team unity is stronger than ever. “I feel that the team is in good shape, and we are very close right now. We feel strong, good vibes. Playing with this shield means giving it your all, especially against Toluca,” she said.
Rodríguez acknowledged that injuries have impacted the squad but emphasized their collective support for teammates who cannot play. “We feel united and support those who are injured. This team is mentally in a good place, and while it hasn’t been easy with injuries, the support from our fans gives us a huge boost,” she concluded.
