Anaheim Ducks Seek First Win Against Sharks After Season Opener Loss

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Anaheim Ducks aim for their first win of the season as they face the San Jose Sharks tonight at 7 p.m. PST. The game will be broadcast exclusively on Victory+.
After losing their season opener to the Seattle Kraken 3-1, the Ducks (0-1-0) are looking to turn things around against the Sharks (0-0-1). Head coach Joel Quenneville highlighted the positives from the loss, particularly the team’s strong start. “I think we saw some positives in how we started the game,” he said. “Now sustaining it and having a 60-minute game is what we’re talking about.”
Rookie Beckett Sennecke scored the Ducks’ only goal on Thursday, marking a notable debut. At just 19 years and 254 days old, he became the youngest player in the last ten NHL seasons to score in his first game. “It was exciting, obviously,” teammate Jackson LaCombe remarked. “To score in the first game is pretty rare, but it was pretty cool.”
The Sharks, coming off a tough season opener where they led the Golden Knights 3-2 before eventually losing in overtime, are also eager for their first win. Ducks rookie Leo Carlsson noted the Sharks present a fast and unpredictable challenge. “They have good young players and older players now this year, as well. It’s an upgrade from last year, I think,” he said.
Quenneville expressed his thoughts on confronting a team with emerging talent like first-overall pick Macklin Celebrini. “We got a pretty good idea of what they’re looking to do,” he mentioned. “It always comes back to how we want to play and what we want to accomplish.”
With both teams seeking their first victory of the season, the matchup is expected to be competitive. The Ducks hope to carry the momentum from valuable early-game experience into tonight’s contest.
