MADRID, Spain — Carlo Ancelotti is set to meet with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez in the coming days to discuss the coach’s future with the club, sources told ESPN. Ancelotti, whose contract runs until 2026, may leave the club after the final LaLiga match of the season against Real Sociedad.

This meeting comes after Madrid suffered a disappointing 3-2 extra-time defeat to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday. Earlier this month, the team was eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal in the quarterfinals. Currently, Madrid sits four points behind Barcelona in LaLiga with five games left.

Ancelotti has been one of the most successful coaches in Real Madrid’s history, earning three Champions League titles and two LaLiga championships during his two tenures. However, recent performances have raised questions about his future with the team.

Discussions between the Brazilian Football Confederation and Ancelotti’s representatives about the possibility of him taking over the Brazilian national team have sparked further speculation regarding his role at the Bernabéu.

In light of Ancelotti’s potential departure, sources indicate that an internal interim appointment may be made for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, starting June 18. Potential candidates for the interim role include director of football Santiago Solari, Castilla coach Raúl González, or under-19s coach Álvaro Arbeloa.

When asked about his future after the Copa del Rey final loss, Ancelotti stated, “Whether I continue [at Madrid] is an issue for the coming weeks, not for today.” He emphasized the importance of remaining focused, saying, “We’re still competing for trophies.” Ancelotti added, “I don’t want to talk about my future. We’ll talk about it with the club at the end of the season.”

Despite the uncertainty, he expressed confidence in his relationship with the club, saying, “I’ve always had a great relationship with the club. There’ll be no confrontation.”
