Boston Marathon Runners In Andover

ANDOVER, Mass. — A total of 35 residents from Andover are set to compete in the 129th Boston Marathon on April 21, 2025, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of Patriots Day.

The marathon, which spans a challenging 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston‘s Back Bay, is renowned for drawing elite international athletes alongside thousands of recreational runners.

This year’s event marks a significant milestone in local history, celebrating a day that honors the Revolutionary War battles of Lexington and Concord.

Among the Andover participants are seasoned marathoners and first-timers who have trained rigorously to prepare for this prestigious race. Each runner has their own story and motivation for participating in this iconic event.

The Boston Marathon, established in 1897, continues to be one of the oldest and most prestigious road races in the world, attracting more than 30,000 participants each year.

“Running the Boston Marathon is a dream come true for many,” said local running club president Lisa Greene. “It’s not just about the race; it’s about the community and the spirit that surrounds it.”

The influx of runners and spectators is expected to bring substantial economic activity to Andover and surrounding communities, as hotels, restaurants, and shops prepare for the marathon weekend.

Each participant faces the challenge of the course, which is known for its tough hills, particularly in Newton, but also for its supportive crowds cheering along the way.

As the date approaches, community members continue to rally around their friends and neighbors preparing for what many consider a rite of spring in New England.
