Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Timo Werner will not have his loan spell terminated early, despite the German forward’s struggles in front of goal this season. Werner, who joined Spurs on a six-month loan from RB Leipzig in January 2024, has scored just once in 25 appearances across all competitions.

Postecoglou addressed the speculation surrounding Werner’s future ahead of Tottenham’s FA Cup third-round tie against Tamworth on Sunday. “Yeah, the last thing I want is to lose another player at the moment,” Postecoglou said. “The other night after Rodrigo Bentancur went off, we had 11 first-team players out. We’re not letting anyone go at this point.”

Werner started in last weekend’s defeat to Manchester United in the Premier League and came off the bench in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg victory over Chelsea. Despite his lack of goals, Postecoglou praised Werner’s attitude and contributions. “His attitude has never been a problem in terms of the way he trains or the way he’s going about things,” the manager said. “He’s got certain attributes that can hurt any team. You saw that on the weekend, he’s got a real turn of pace.”

Reports had linked Werner with a return to Germany, with Eintracht Frankfurt reportedly interested in signing him as a replacement for Omar Marmoush. However, Postecoglou’s comments suggest that Werner will remain at Tottenham for the remainder of the season. The 28-year-old’s versatility and pace have been valuable assets for Spurs, particularly in late-game situations.

Despite Postecoglou’s backing, some Tottenham fans have expressed frustration with Werner’s performances. Social media has been flooded with comments from supporters who would prefer to see the forward leave the club. One fan joked they would “personally drive him to the airport,” while another offered to “chip-in” for his ticket.

Werner’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain beyond this season, with his loan deal set to expire in June 2025. For now, Postecoglou is focused on utilizing the German’s strengths as Spurs continue their campaign in multiple competitions.
