Angel Reese Eyes First Championship as WNBA Star Prepares for 2025 Season
CHICAGO, Ill. — Angel Reese, the Chicago Sky‘s rising star, is determined to secure her first professional championship as she gears up for her second season in the WNBA. The 2024 seventh overall draft pick made history during her rookie year, setting records and solidifying her place as one of the league’s most exciting players.
Reese, a former LSU standout, dominated the court in 2024 with a league-record 13.1 rebounds per game. She became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 400 rebounds and set an all-time record for consecutive double-doubles by a rookie. Her historic three-game stretch in August, where she became the first player to record 20 or more rebounds in three straight games, included a career-high 22 rebounds against the Las Vegas Aces.
“She never wants to leave,” the Rose Basketball Club captioned a video of Reese honing her three-point shooting skills. The 3v3 women’s team, part of the Unrivaled Women's Basketball League, features Reese alongside WNBA stars like Lexie Hull, Chelsea Gray, and Brittney Sykes. Reese’s offseason training also focuses on improving her inside game and passing skills, which are expected to elevate her performance in the 2025 season.
Reese’s rookie campaign concluded with a trio of standout performances, including a 24-point, 12-rebound game against the Los Angeles Sparks. Fans and analysts alike anticipate even greater achievements from the young superstar as she continues to refine her game.
Meanwhile, the inaugural season of the Unrivaled Women’s Basketball League tipped off on Jan. 17 in Miami, offering players like Reese an opportunity to compete during the WNBA offseason. The league, founded by WNBA All-Stars and Olympic gold medalists, features 36 top players across six teams competing for cash awards and equity ownership. With an average salary exceeding $100,000 and a total salary pool of $8 million, Unrivaled is setting new standards for women’s sports.
“Every game, we will have a game-winning shot,” said Alex Bazzell, president of Unrivaled. The league’s innovative format includes a compressed full-court, an 18-second shot clock, and a “winning score” system designed to keep games thrilling until the final buzzer.
As Reese prepares for the 2025 WNBA season, her relentless work ethic and historic rookie achievements have positioned her as a key player to watch. With her sights set on a championship, Reese is poised to continue rewriting the record books.
