105th Annual NYC Veterans Day Parade: Schedule, Road Closures, and Honorees
The 105th annual New York City Veterans Day Parade is set to take place on Monday, November 11, 2024, in Manhattan. This event, one of the largest Veterans Day celebrations in the U.S., will feature a diverse array of participants, including nearly 20,000 individuals from across the country and almost 300 marching and vehicle units.
The parade will commence at 12:30 p.m. from 26th Street and Fifth Avenue, proceeding north up Fifth Avenue to 45th Street. It is expected to conclude around 3 p.m. Despite some anticipated rain overnight, the weather is forecasted to clear up before sunrise, promising a mild and breezy parade day.
This year’s grand marshal is Dakota Meyer, a distinguished United States Marine who served in Afghanistan and was awarded the Medal of Honor. The parade will also include marching bands, military units, and various veterans’ organizations, all coming together to honor those who have sacrificed for their country.
Several street closures will be in effect to accommodate the parade. Affected areas include Broadway between West 23rd Street and West 29th Street, Fifth Avenue between West 23rd Street and West 26th Street, and various cross streets along the parade route. Additionally, the Madison Square Park Conservancy has announced that the gravel and Broadway side entryways to the park will be closed starting at 6 a.m., and the Dog Run will be closed from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m..
A wreath-laying ceremony will precede the parade, taking place in Madison Square Park just before 11 a.m. This ceremony is part of the broader tributes and events honoring veterans on this significant day.
