ATHENS, Ga. — Athlon Sports released its highly anticipated college football offseason edition this week, including insights from anonymous coaches about the Georgia Bulldogs. The comments appear particularly focused on the team’s offense and its new starting quarterback, Gunner Stockton, as they head into the 2025 season.

Stockton enters his fourth year at Georgia, having played in nine games and starting his first career game in last season’s College Football Playoff quarterfinal loss. He has completed 57 of 83 passes for 588 yards, along with three touchdowns and two interceptions.

One coach offered a cautionary assessment: “The biggest question mark will be the offense under Stockton. They didn’t chase any portal guys, so let’s see if the kid can become elite.” This sentiment echoed concerns about whether Stockton could step into the QB1 role vacated by Carson Beck, who transferred to Miami.

Georgia’s offense faced challenges last season, ranking among the least productive in recent years. Following record lows in first-half scoring and total rushing output, many coaches are wondering if they can improve this year. “All eyes are on the offense. They have questions at pretty much every position group here,” another anonymous coach remarked. This includes whether the receiving corps can rebound after leading the nation in dropped passes last season.

On the defensive side, the Bulldogs still boast an elite group, though one coach expressed concern about depth at linebacker. Georgia’s linebacker lineup will feature key talents, but true freshmen may have to step up due to injuries. “I don’t think this is the same level of talent we’ve seen in the last three or four years,” one coach warned, indicating a potential decline in efficiency on both lines of scrimmage.

Georgia will kick off the 2025 season on August 30 at Sanford Stadium, hosting the Marshall Thundering Herd. It will be the second all-time meeting between the two teams. Despite the skepticism surrounding their offense and line ups, the Bulldogs are looking to silence doubters as they defend their title.
