Argentina’s President Javier Milei Appoints Alejandro Oxenford as New US Ambassador Amid Strong Ties with Trump
Argentine President Javier Milei has appointed tech entrepreneur Alejandro ‘Alec’ Oxenford as the country’s new ambassador to the United States. This move comes as Milei seeks to strengthen bilateral relations with the incoming U.S. administration under President-elect Donald Trump.
Oxenford, 55, is a co-founder of successful tech firms OLX and letgo, both of which have been valued as “unicorns” with market valuations exceeding $1 billion. He is also a known art collector and has directed the arteBA Foundation and arteBA art fair. Oxenford holds a degree in business administration from the Catholic University of Argentina and an MBA from Harvard University.
The appointment of Oxenford follows the recent phone call between Milei and Trump, where Trump referred to Milei as his “favorite president.” This call marks the beginning of a potentially strong alliance between the two leaders, who have expressed mutual admiration for each other’s political ideologies.
Milei is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration on January 20 in Washington D.C. and plans to meet with Trump in person later this week at Mar-a-Lago. These interactions are part of Argentina‘s efforts to foster a close relationship with the new U.S. administration, particularly in negotiating favorable terms with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other key issues.
Oxenford has expressed his gratitude for the appointment and his commitment to making a significant impact in strengthening Argentina’s position on the global stage. His role as ambassador is seen as crucial in enhancing bilateral relations and promoting cooperation between Argentina and the U.S..
