Arkansas Razorbacks Football Practice 2025

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Quincy Rhodes has emerged as a key defender for the Arkansas Razorbacks during their early spring football practices. The defensive lineman, who made his starting debut during the Liberty Bowl against Texas Tech in December, recorded a pass breakup and two tackles in that game, contributing to the Razorbacks’ 39-26 victory.

Rhodes, a former 4-star prospect, has spent the last two seasons learning from Landon Jackson, an NFL-bound player who opted out of last season’s bowl game. This mentorship has helped Rhodes secure a place on the first team as he prepares for his junior year.

“Definitely just taking advantage of every opportunity I have,” Rhodes said. “Being able to mentally lock in before a game and understanding my assignments.”

The Razorbacks face significant changes on the defensive line following the departures of Jackson and Eric Gregory, both of whom are eligible for the NFL Draft. Additionally, defensive end Nico Davillier has transferred to UCLA, leaving tackle Cam Ball as the only returning starter, though he is sidelined this spring due to elbow surgery.

“Quincy Rhodes is as talented as a lot of people have at that position, and big,” said Razorbacks Coach Sam Pittman. “We need somebody to pop. And I’ll be honest with you, we need the same amount inside, too.”

Rhodes appreciates the impact Jackson had on his growth, stating, “He definitely left a mark for me coming on up. He taught me a lot, so I’m really just trying to leave footprints as he left for me in a good way.”

Preparing for the season, Rhodes has also focused on regaining lost weight and improving his conditioning. “My weight really fluctuates,” he noted. “Just eating and lifting—that’s really what it is. I’m really not on a specific diet.”

In a recent practice at Razorback Stadium, each offensive unit began a possession from their 38-yard line. Starting quarterback Taylen Green directed the first team on a six-play, 62-yard touchdown drive, concluding with a 25-yard rushing touchdown by receiver Kam Shanks. Green completed a crucial third-down pass to CJ Brown for a 35-yard gain, finishing the drive 1-for-3 passing.

Second-string quarterback KJ Jackson led another scoring drive, capped by a 7-yard rushing touchdown by New Mexico State transfer Mike Washington after a six-play, 62-yard march. Jackson was 2-of-4 passing, connecting with tight end Maddox Lassiter and Shanks.

Additionally, Braylen Russell, a sophomore running back, is entering spring training leaner after joining and exiting the transfer portal twice. Listed at 238 pounds, he aims to reach a goal weight of 230. “Spring’s going good so far,” he said. “Dropping my weight down, trying to take things serious this year weight-wise and playbook-wise.”

Russell attributes his weight loss to cutting out fast food and late-night snacks while emphasizing his disciplined approach to training. “My knees, I need to get my knees stronger. Legs, lower body stronger,” he added.

Arkansas will host its Pro Day on Monday, with several former players expected to attend to support the current team. Events will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. inside Walker Pavilion, with 17 players set to participate.
