Arsenal Draws Against Crystal Palace, Delays Liverpool’s Title Win

LONDON — Arsenal drew 2-2 against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on April 23, 2025, preventing Liverpool from being crowned Premier League champions without playing. Mikel Arteta‘s team was aware that a loss would hand the title to Liverpool.
Arsenal started strong, with Jakub Kiwior scoring a header from a Martin Ødegaard free kick just three minutes into the match. This marked Kiwior’s first league goal of the season.
Crystal Palace equalized in the 27th minute with a superb volley from Eberechi Eze, who connected from a corner taken by Adam Wharton. Eze’s shot hit the inside of the post before going in, showcasing his skill.
Leandro Trossard then restored Arsenal’s lead just before halftime with a deflected strike, capitalizing on a well-coordinated build-up. This was Trossard’s third goal in two matches.
However, Arsenal could not secure the victory. A crucial mistake by William Saliba allowed Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta to score the equalizer seven minutes from the end, finishing calmly over the head of goalkeeper David Raya.
Despite Arsenal’s solid start, they settled for a point, leaving them 12 points behind league leaders Liverpool. Liverpool could secure the title with a draw against Tottenham on Sunday, which adds urgency to Arsenal’s upcoming fixtures.
The Gunners must quickly refocus as they face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League semi-final on Tuesday. Arteta noted his disappointment with the team’s play, stating, ‘We struggled to find consistency in the game.’
As Arsenal looks ahead, they will aim to improve their performance to meet the challenges of their next encounter. They remain determined to avoid more setbacks in an already tough season.
