Myles Lewis Skelly Arsenal Training Session

LONDON, EnglandMyles Lewis-Skelly, the 18-year-old Arsenal academy graduate, is making waves both on and off the pitch. The versatile midfielder, who made his Premier League debut in September 2023, has been recognized not only for his footballing talent but also for his commitment to education and his role as a mentor to younger players at the club.

Lewis-Skelly, who joined Arsenal at the age of eight, has balanced his football career with his studies, recently completing his GCSEs while on international duty with England’s Under-17 team. He is now pursuing AS Levels in Spanish and business studies. “It was hard at times, but my teachers and the people around me made it a lot easier to juggle football and education,” Lewis-Skelly said in an exclusive interview. “Communication was key. I had to plan my time carefully, and my teachers were very supportive.”

His dedication to both football and academics has earned him praise from Arsenal’s academy manager, Per Mertesacker, who presented him with a Strong Young Gunners role model award earlier this month. “He’s been a shining example for our younger players, not just for his performances on the pitch but for how he conducts himself off it,” Mertesacker said.

Lewis-Skelly’s journey has been shaped by the unwavering support of his family, particularly his mother, Marcia Lewis. She has since founded No1Fan.club, a platform to help parents navigate the challenges of raising young footballers. “My mum always taught me to put education first,” Lewis-Skelly said. “She’s been my biggest supporter, and now she’s helping other families through her work.”

On the pitch, Lewis-Skelly has impressed with his versatility, transitioning from a central midfielder to a left-back role in Arsenal’s first team. “I enjoy the challenge of playing different positions,” he said. “Right now, I’m focused on helping the team wherever I can.”

Despite his rapid rise, Lewis-Skelly remains grounded, emphasizing the importance of education and personal growth. “I’m still learning and establishing myself,” he said. “But I’m determined to keep improving and reaching new heights.”
