Arsenal Welcomes Back Key Players Against Newcastle in Premier League Clash

LONDON, England — Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made one significant change to his lineup for today’s Premier League match against Newcastle United, with midfielder Declan Rice returning after a hip injury. Rice missed the last game, a 2-2 draw with Liverpool, and replaces Mikel Merino, who is suspended due to a red card received in that match.
In more positive news for Arsenal, both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have overcome injury concerns and will start in what will be their last game at Emirates Stadium this season. German striker Kai Havertz has also made the matchday squad for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury in February.
Arteta expressed optimism as Havertz could still play a role as a substitute today, along with Jorginho, who has recovered from an abdominal issue after missing the match against Brentford. This match will also mark William Saliba’s 100th appearance in the Premier League.
On the opposing side, Newcastle’s Eddie Howe will have to adjust his team for this crucial match as 23-goal striker Alexander Isak is unavailable due to a groin problem. Callum Wilson steps in to replace Isak, while Sven Botman returns from a knee injury, and ex-Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock is back on the bench after missing time with a thigh issue.
Arsenal’s starting lineup features Raya, White, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly, Partey, Rice, Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, and Trossard. Their bench consists of Neto, Calafiori, Tierney, Zinchenko, Jorginho, Henry-Francis, Nwaneri, Sterling, and Havertz. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s lineup includes Pope, Burn, Botman, Schar, Livramento, Tonali, Guimaraes, Murphy, Gordon, Barnes, and Wilson.
Both teams are looking for vital points; Arsenal is aiming to secure second place in the league standings, while Newcastle hopes to maintain their Champions League qualifying position. Arteta noted that a win will emphasize the importance of the last home game of the season and allow the club to express gratitude to their supporters.
“We know how vital this game is and we’re ready to perform,” Arteta said. “It’s our chance to solidify a strong finish to the season.”
The match begins at 4:30 PM local time as Arsenal looks to break their three-match losing streak against Newcastle and strengthen their hold on a top position in the Premier League.
