Aryna Sabalenka Dominates at Miami Open, Advances to Third Round

MIAMI, Fla. — Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka cruised to a quick victory over Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova, winning 6-3, 6-0 in the second round of the Miami Open on Thursday. The match lasted just 59 minutes and showcased Sabalenka’s impressive form following a tough loss in the finals of the Indian Wells tournament last week.
Sabalenka, currently ranked No. 1 in the world, hit 32 winners during the match and displayed her powerful baseline skills. “I cannot complain about my season,” she said after the match. “Of course, I lost two biggest finals. But it’s only a lesson, not that big of a loss, to be honest. I feel like my tennis is getting better every day.”
Looking ahead, Sabalenka will face Romanian qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse in the next round. The match is set to test her resilience as she aims to improve upon her performance in previous finals. “Of course, Miami, there is only one thing everyone wants here is to win the title,” she noted. “I really hope I can play the same way I played at Indian Wells and improve in the finals. Let’s just take it step by step.”
In the earlier rounds of the Miami Open, the world No. 64, Tomova, secured her place against American Catherine McNally with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-3. The Miami Open, classified as a WTA 1000 event, boasts a prize pool of nearly $9 million, attracting top talent from around the world.
The tournament continues to showcase thrilling matches as players vie for the championship title at Hard Rock Stadium, a venue known for its vibrant atmosphere and competitive spirit.
