Aston Villa Nearing £50m Signing of Everton Midfielder Amadou Onana

Aston Villa is on the verge of finalizing a deal with Everton to secure the transfer of midfielder Amadou Onana for a reported fee of £50 million. The agreement is nearing completion, with personal terms already settled between Villa and the 22-year-old as they set their sights on the upcoming Champions League campaign.

Onana, who represented Belgium at Euro 2024, caught the eye of Villa manager Unai Emery, who is keen to add the talented midfielder to his squad. Everton is open to the sale of Onana but is adamant about holding onto defender Jarrad Branthwaite unless a significant offer is made.

Since joining Everton from Lille in 2022 for an initial £30 million, Onana has established himself as a key player, making 72 appearances, including 37 last season across all competitions. Everton views Branthwaite in the same bracket as previous high-profile central defenders they sold for substantial fees.

Paris Saint-Germain has shown interest in Onana in recent years, hoping to match the fee they received for similar transfers. With French club Lille entitled to a significant percentage of any profit from Onana’s sale, negotiations have been critical.

Clubs like Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid have also been linked with Onana, showcasing the widespread admiration for the midfielder’s abilities. Despite his involvement in Euro 2024, Onana’s focus remains on the prospect of joining Aston Villa and playing under Emery in the top-tier European competition.

Aston Villa’s summer business has seen the arrivals of Enzo Barrenechea and Ross Barkley in midfield, with Douglas Luiz departing for Juventus and Tim Iroegbunam moving to Everton. The club’s strategic signings reflect their ambition to compete at the highest level in both the Premier League and Champions League.
