Atlanta United Training Session March 2025

ATLANTA, Ga. — Atlanta United is determined to bounce back from a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Charlotte FC as they prepare to face the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night. Head coach Ronny Deila emphasized the importance of trust among players as they approach this crucial matchup at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

After a scoreless first half against Charlotte, Atlanta United struggled defensively, conceding two goals within four minutes of the second half. The team’s recent form has left them looking for answers as they aim to reestablish their competitive edge in the Eastern Conference.

“As a group, we have to learn from these kinds of experiences,” Deila said following the loss. “We were even with them, maybe even better in the first half, but they took their chances in the second half. They deserve to win in the end.”

Atlanta United’s preparations at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground have included a focus on offensive strategies, particularly how to effectively transition from defense to attack. Training drills have emphasized making quick runs and precision in the final third, areas where the team hopes to excel against the Red Bulls.

Deila revealed that fullbacks Pedro Amador and Ronald Hernández are back to training following injuries. Amador could potentially start Saturday’s game, a much-needed boost for a squad that has faced depth challenges early in the season.

“To have him back is huge for us,” Deila acknowledged. “His ability to create width will add a new dimension to our attacking play.”

Despite the injury setbacks, Atlanta United’s forward Miguel Almirón has emerged as a standout player, recently winning all nine duels he contested in the previous match. His presence in the lineup is crucial for the team’s offensive cohesion.

“It’s a new team, it’s normal to have some mistakes and good things,” said forward Nika Saba. “We’re all pros learning to play together.”

The Red Bulls enter the match after a successful 2-0 victory over Nashville SC. The dynamic interplay of players like Mohammed Sofo and Emil Forsberg poses a significant threat to Atlanta’s defense.

“It’s just getting better and better for us,” Forsberg stated. “We had some bumps in the road, but we are beginning to find our rhythm, especially with the way we play fast football after we turn the ball over.”

Atlanta United will need to bring their best as they navigate a challenging start to the season. Deila stressed the importance of sticking to their game plan, even when faced with setbacks.

“It’s about maintaining the same principles when we go 1-0 down and not trying to change everything in a panic,” he said. “Discipline and focus will be key against a team like New York that plays differently each match.”

With a win against the Red Bulls, Atlanta hopes to turn their fortunes around and secure a better trajectory for the remainder of the season. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
