Atlético Mineiro Hexacampeonato Celebration

Belo Horizonte, Brazil — On March 15, 2025, Atlético Mineiro secured its place in history by winning its sixth consecutive Campeonato Mineiro title, achieving a remarkable milestone of 50 overall state championships. Despite a 1-0 loss to América in the second leg of the final,Atlético’s dominant 4-0 victory in the first leg proved decisive.

The victory marks a significant achievement for the club, further solidifying its status as the most successful team in the history of the Campeonato Mineiro. This accomplishment has also propelled players Igor Rabello and Guilherme Arana into the top ranks for titles won at the club, each now holding nine trophies and entering a tie with Atlético legend Afonso Silva.

Rabello joined Atlético in January 2019, quickly becoming a vital part of the defensive lineup. To date, he has competed in 197 matches for the club, contributing substantially to its success. Arana, who signed with the team in January 2020 after a lackluster European career, has since become a fan favorite, with 234 appearances and counting.

“Since I got here, I don’t know what it feels like to lose in the Campeonato Mineiro. Everyone deserves congratulations, especially our fans who have always supported us,” said Arana after the match. “Now it’s time to celebrate.”

Both players have played crucial roles in their six consecutive victories from 2020 to 2025, including the wins in the Campeonato Brasileiro in 2021 and the Copa do Brasil in the same year. Their testimonies echo a collective achievement for the team under the guidance of four different coaches during this period.

In terms of individual achievements, Rabello and Arana are currently tied with legendary figures such as João Leite, Réver, and Kafunga, who each have 12 titles. Historically, Leite, who holds the record for most appearances in club history, won the Campeonato Mineiro eleven times, along with one Copa Conmebol in 1992. Réver, another significant player, contributed to six state titles among other major competitions.

As the club moves forward, both Rabello and Arana have opportunities to further cement their legacies with upcoming matches in the Série A, Copa do Brasil, and Copa Sul-Americana. Despite ongoing speculation regarding their future, both players remain integral to Atlético’s ambitions.

The road to this triumph included not just a stellar performance in the final but also a consistent strategy that resulted in significant victories throughout the season. The coaching changes from Sampaoli to Cuca, and then to Gabriel Milito showcased a partnership aimed at maintaining the club’s competitive edge.

With this win, Atlético not only celebrated its 50th Campeonato Mineiro title but also reinforced its dominance in Brazilian football, setting the stage for future accomplishments and milestones.
