Atletico Madrid Vs Getafe Copa Del Rey Match

MADRID, Spain — Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is shifting focus to Tuesday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final against Getafe, despite a looming LaLiga clash with league leaders Real Madrid this weekend. The match comes as Atletico aims to secure their first Copa del Rey title since 2013.

Getafe, currently 14th in LaLiga and just three points above the relegation zone, have shown resilience under coach Jose Bordalas. The team is unbeaten in six matches this calendar year, including draws against top-tier opponents like Real Sociedad, Barcelona, and Sevilla. “We live from match to match, from day to day. There is no other thought than tomorrow’s game,” Simeone said during a press conference on Monday.

Atletico, sitting third in LaLiga, last won the league title in the 2020-21 season. They are also preparing for the Champions League knockout stage, adding to an already packed schedule. However, Simeone remains undeterred by the fixture congestion. “Obviously we all have the objective of going through and reaching the final of the Copa del Rey,” he said. “I can’t imagine anything other than trying to take the game to where we can hurt Getafe to stay in the competition.”

Getafe’s last victory over Atletico dates back to 2011, but their recent form suggests they could pose a significant challenge. Simeone acknowledged their intensity, stating, “The profile of the coach and the team is very clear. The last few games they have played speak of a great intensity of play. They know what they are playing for, and when a team knows what they are playing for, they are always dangerous.”

Atletico narrowly defeated Getafe 1-0 in their last LaLiga encounter in December, highlighting the competitive nature of their matches. A win on Tuesday would keep Atletico’s hopes alive for a domestic double, as they continue to chase LaLiga glory and progress in the Champions League.
