Atletico Madrid’s Pablo Barrios Gains Confidence Amid Champions League Push
MADRID, Spain — Atletico Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios has expressed growing confidence in his performance as he secures a spot in the starting lineup ahead of the team’s crucial Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen. The 20-year-old, who has recently regained his place in the squad, emphasized his determination to contribute to the team’s success.
“I’m very happy because I’ve finally been able to play a series of games,” Barrios said in a pre-match press conference. “All the players enjoy themselves on the pitch, and I have to continue as I have been doing, bringing out the best in myself to help.”
Barrios acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly in finishing. “The other day [in defeat to Leganes], I had a very clear chance. I also had clear chances in the games before Christmas. I know I have to work on that, to have more confidence when it comes to shooting at goal,” he added.
The young midfielder also credited teammate Koke for his development. “They have all helped me, but the one I have looked up to the most is Koke. He has been my role model,” Barrios said. “I am proud that the captain says that about me. I hope to enjoy many more games with him.”
Barrios’ resurgence comes at a critical time for Atletico Madrid as they aim to advance in the Champions League. His recent performances have solidified his role in the team’s midfield, offering a glimpse of his potential to become a key player for the club.
