ATP Tour Announces New Global Tennis Tournament Series
The ATP Tour has unveiled plans for a new global tennis tournament series set to launch in 2024, aiming to expand the sport’s reach and provide more opportunities for players worldwide. The announcement was made during a press conference in London, where ATP officials outlined the structure and goals of the initiative.
The series will feature 10 tournaments across six continents, with events scheduled in cities such as Buenos Aires, Cape Town, and Bangkok. Each tournament will offer a prize pool of $2 million, making it one of the most lucrative additions to the tennis calendar in recent years. ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi stated, ‘This is a transformative moment for tennis. We are committed to growing the sport and creating more pathways for players to compete at the highest level.’
The new series will also introduce innovative formats, including shorter matches and fan engagement initiatives, to attract a younger audience. Gaudenzi emphasized the importance of adapting to changing viewer preferences, saying, ‘We need to evolve with the times while preserving the integrity of the game.’
Top-ranked players, including Novak Djokovic and Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek, have expressed support for the initiative. Djokovic commented, ‘This is a great step forward for tennis. It will bring more excitement and opportunities for players and fans alike.’
The ATP Tour plans to finalize the tournament schedule by the end of 2023, with the first event expected to take place in March 2024. The series will be broadcast globally, with partnerships already secured with major sports networks.
