Auburn Defeats LSU 8-4, Breaking Tigers’ Nine-Game Win Streak

AUBURN, Ala. – Ninth-ranked Auburn clinched an 8-4 victory over No. 3 LSU on Friday night at Plainsman Park, snapping the Tigers’ nine-game winning streak. Auburn improved its record to 24-10 overall and 7-6 in the Southeastern Conference as LSU fell to 31-4 and 10-3 in league play.
Auburn’s starting pitcher, Samuel Dutton, played a pivotal role in the victory, earning the win after allowing no runs and just three hits over six innings, recording seven strikeouts and two walks. In contrast, LSU starter Kade Anderson, who held a 6-1 record prior to the game, suffered the loss after giving up five earned runs on six hits in 4.1 innings.
“Auburn has a good lineup, one of the better ones in the country,” said LSU coach Jay Johnson. “They took a bunch of good at-bats. On our end, we need to be self-aware of the things that are correctable from tonight’s game. The sun comes up tomorrow, and there’s another competition, so we want to come out ready to go.”
The scoring began in the bottom of the second inning when Auburn’s catcher, Chase Fralick, hit a two-run double, providing the home team with a 2-0 lead. The Tigers extended their advantage to 6-0 in the fifth, with right fielder Ike Irish delivering a three-run triple that was followed by first baseman Cooper McMurray‘s RBI single. Chris Rembert’s sixth-inning RBI single further widened the gap to 7-0.
LSU attempted to rally in the seventh, scoring three runs. Left fielder Derek Curiel contributed with an RBI groundout, while first baseman Jared Jones hit a two-run double to cut the lead to 7-3. However, Auburn added a run in the bottom of the seventh from third baseman Eric Guevara’s RBI single.
In the top of the ninth, LSU’s Chris Stanfield and Curiel connected for back-to-back doubles, bringing home another run for the Tigers. Despite this late surge, Auburn secured the 8-4 victory, maintaining control throughout the game.
The teams are set to continue their series with Game 2 scheduled for 6 p.m. CT Saturday, broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network and streamed live on SEC Network +.
